and obama floated chain cpi before the new year and two summers ago to raise the medicare eligibility age. would you be more comfortable with that broad framework, half revenue, half entitlement reform or just go with the sequester? which would you prefer? >> i would frankly prefer we did not pass $4 trillion in tax cuts. maybe 2.8 trillion in tax cuts and wouldn't have to cut anything -- >> right, right. but this is where we are right now. this is the choice to make, right? >> this is the problem. we are doing a sequential budget. we tugt do it all at once. cut taxes, how do you pay for them? if you don't pay for them that way, you don't get the tax cuts and doing things sequentially and ending up as your question suggests cutting social security and medicare to preserve tax cuts. i don't think if people knew that's what was going to happen, i think most people wouldn't have wanted the tax cuts to begin with. most people don't remember them from ten years ago and to preserve tax cuts they don't remember getting, they wouldn't want to cut social security and medicare. and you talked about

obama initiative. people will relate to the president and marco rubio will be a long second afterthought. >> senator viter aside, if marco rubio's goal was to convince the far right republicans to consider immigration reform, his interview with rush limbaugh went a good way in doing that. the figure that is that this 11 million illegal immigrants, i don't know is actually current. a lot of people are suggesting that that figure might be low. the real count might be somewhere in the 15 to 20 or 30 or 40 million illegal immigrants or migrants we have to sort of address here. that brings up two issues for me. if that's true, republicans who oppose immigration reform really need to come up with a good way of trying to deport 40 million people. that sounds absurd and impractical to me. they need to get on board with how to address the reality of the situation we are living in. two, if the figure is high, i'm wondering if the cost of dealing with a large group of people who might be at the back of the line for 20 years, if that cost has been figured into any of the immigration plans we are dis

that the democrats, you know, got anything out of caving on gun control. you know, obama, kerry did worse than gore in tennessee and backing down on gun control supposed to help democrats in. i think there's real risks for red state democrats but how big? bigger than supporting health care reform or supporting the stimulus or supporting any other element of the democratic platform? i don't think. people say it's maybe disqualifying. >> maybe there might be a difference between, you know, having some gun control measures sort of buried down in the platform and really championing them in the way that maybe bloomberg does. one other example for you is mary sue harry and used to be the attorney general, ran for governor, up in the polls and ran on a platform of gun control in virginia in the '90s and ended up getting absolutely destroyed and it occurred to me, you know, you mentioned clair mccaskill and doesn't have a good ratding from the nra as a woman but the election didn't hinge on gun control but much more to do with todd aiken and i'm wondering if you there might be a gender difference here. wom
